Fellas, I have a 6.5 briggs. The valves will not open. Took the valve breather off to access the springs and they weren't stuck. Seems like the valve lifters aren't moving. Took the springs and keepers off to see if the lifters would move freely and they do. In and out and they spin. My question, is the cam shot?

Wellp, dove in, took the crank case apart and....... the gear on the crank was broken. Let's replace it!

Rare, but stuff happens in the little motors. And I see you got your main mechanic on your lap (in the avatar), mommy gets upset when those little hands get greasy but she'll get over it. (from experience here)

tom3,
Yes it is a plastic cam. I took the engine down to the crank, found the crank gear key was broken causing the cam not to turn, in turn causing the valves not to open. Hopped on the ol' amazon, ordered a metal gear, slapped it in and it started on the first pull. Just got done with about 35 minutes of mowing and it ran like a champ.
