Briggs torque ?

I currently own a 5yr old Scag Freedom Z 48" with a BS 26hp.I cut 2 acres weekly and here in Louisiana it's about 8 to 9 months out of the yr.I have had "0" problems with the mower or the engine.

my neighbor has been bugging me to sell him my mower which would give me a good excuse to buy the new Z 52" with the larger tires and frame.with that said it would either come with a 27hp briggs & stratton commercial turf series v-twin with cyclonic air filter or a Kawasaki FS691V which I think is a 23HP.

this is homeower use only!I feel either engine would last me a very long time, and I'm a stickler for proper maintenance.the main problem I have is I cannot find any documentation on the Briggs engine torque/rpm specs anywhere.my dealer subtly pushes me towards the Kawi because of the torque ratings and claims it's just a better engine.

I kind of like maintaining extra hp especially when and engine is called upon to turn blades, pump fluid, transmissions, wheels, etc,.I leaning towards the Briggs as of now but would really like to know what the torque ratings are for the 27 hp and any other input you guys may have!

thanks for reading my rambling!!

I want to say 270 ft lbs but I am not sure most engines they show the spec hp to be the same as the torque like 27 gross hp/ torque.

maybe your right.I thought of that but I figured no way the torque and HP was exactly the same!! lol
if that's the case the 23HP Kawasaki691V has nearly 40lb/ft of torque. may not be a tough decision.

zwalls,
My research last fall before buying my Gravely made me lean towards the Kawasaki engines for reliability and endurance. Is there an option on that Scagg to upgrade the Kawa to the FX(Commercial) series? That's what I found to be the overall best small engine out there right now. Also, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the CC displacement is more relevant to the torque produced than the HP rating.

thanks for your response.other forums I've asked the same question mentioned the same thing about the FX engines.some even recomended the Brigg over the FS models.if it were possible to get the FX engine on this particular model I'm sure it wouldn't be cost feasible for home use.but something to look into tomorrow.

typically a larger CC engine would be expected to produce more torque,or produce torque easier like a big block engine vs a small block in a race car.but the word is the Kawi's are producing more torque with less HP than the Briggs.just find any hard data to back that up!

thanks again!
