hello there,

this is not a lawn mower issue but i think the engines may be the same.. hopefully someone can help me.. i bought a old troybilt pony rototiller.. the guy who sold it to me said he broke the white piece that holds the choke/run in place. he could only get it to start by pouring motor through the air filter hole. don't know what i got myself into here..

troybilt model # 135292
type 015801

I own a later model (super bronco) with the tecumseh single slanted cyl. It is very picky about choking and easy to flood, but a good engine and very easy on gas. Anyway the choke is a two position. This summer it wants one turn over full choke , then choke off or it floods. Removing the air cleaner starts the flooded engine immediately. This may not help you directly but in long run. I noticed there are manuals free on line. The air cleaner is marginal and will let in dirt unless you fuss with it.

hello,

here is a photo of what i'm dealing with.. i took apart the top of it.. air filter is really really dirty. heres the thing that the previous owner snapped. he could only get it started in really fast and by pouring gas direction in air filter area.

is this fixable or am i screwed?

Yeah, you likely just need to go through the carb properly. It looks like someone has tried to remove the muffler, so check and make sure that they did not break any bolts or strip out any threads....

To change out the choke rod, just pull straight up/out on the choke flap with a pair of pliers, the choke rod comes right out and the new one will slip right in.
