As the title says, my mower will no longer self-propel. It seems like a pretty simple mechanism, but before I gum up the works, I figured I'd ask the experts. Does anyone know how I can get the self-propelling mechanism to start working again? Much obliged.
Belts, gears, and especially grass jamming the drive wheels so that the cheesy plastic teeth break off are places to look. Do let us know what brand and model mower we are talking about here, though.
Many self propel units also use a pair of drive keys (one on each wheel) to engage the wheels to the axle, which will sometimes get stuck and not shift correctly. This can usually be solved with a little WD-40 or some penetrating oil.
