i just replaced the carburetor on my craftsman mower w/briggs & straton 6.25hp motor. ran it for 20 to 30 minutes. we used it to mow for another 45 minutes. we let it set for a few hours and when we returned to finish mowing it will not even start. tried removing the air cleaner and squirting fuel in it but still will not run. any insight would be grately appreciated.
If you put your hand over the air horn and pull the engine over you should feel suction. If you do, pull the engine over 4 times and then remove the plug. It should be wet.
i felt a good amount of suction. pulled it 4 more times and then removed the plug. the plug is saturated with fuel. it did try to fire but would not start fully and run. it just gave a slight chug then nothing.this was a new carb and not a rebuilt that i installed earlyer today.
That is the right carb for your engine. I would check the o-ring where the carb attaches to the block. May have twisted during reassembly. Can also use WD-40 to test for leaks as posted. I use carb cleaner because it is always handy and I get it cheaper.
this mower is driving me nuts. i have tried spraying all around the carb and getting no results. i did find that the oring seemed to be alittle larger with the new carb. i switched it out for thte original one that seemed to fit better but the mower still will not fire up or even make a legit attempt at it. its wierd . like i said after i put the new carb on it ran for a total of about 1 to 1.5 hours. we let it sit for 2 hours to go run errands and when we came back it wouldnt start. well here it is and it still will not start. /cry
Why did you replace the carb? Full of crap? If so did you clean the fuel tank? Replace the fuel line? Clean your fuel can? Buy new fuel? Sounds like your carb is gunked up.
