Briggs opposed 46 Flathead to OHV Repower

Have a 2000 Murray that otherwise ran well. It threw a rod or two.
Anyway thinking of an OHV 40series 22 or 20HP. https://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/40N877-0059
Would this be a good swap? Any Issues I would run into? I think it has auto choke so one less thing to worry.

The mounting holes seem close but the muffler may be tricky, I am thinking of getting flex 1" exhaust if necessary.

My neighbor sent me this, he said run it to the back, he modified his so he don't have to smell fumes. He also has a tailpipe

I reckon a Redneck repair using straight pipes is better than getting a self supporting muffler since it is $200 PN 595139 Starter side outlet PN 595138 Oil Filter side outlet.

Just make sure you have some ear plugs handy and the neighbors are gone when mowing.

Now be careful looking up the 595139 muffler as it can come back as a Kenmore freezer muffler as they are using the same part number.

Not so much the money, I am wondering if those would fit. The L head muffler is tucked under the intake with a shield, then there is the hood.
I will take a pic of the tractor. Maybe I can jumper 1" flex to the old muffler up front.
