Have a husqvarna lt100 lawn tractor with a briggs and Stratton 10hp synchro balance engine. For a while it had a slight rattle at full revs now it is getting more of a knock from inside the engine at lower revs it is easiest to hear and it does it mostly when cold but earlier it was doing it when warmed up and had been running for a while. It is getting louder and more noticeable more and more at a fast rate so I'm just wondering what it could be. It doesn't blow out any smoke and other than the knock it runs fine. I recorded it and you can hear it from the video but I can't upload it here from my phone but I will upload it to YouTube if you want.
When I bought it it didn't have a cutting deck so and the tractor was full of rust. The engine was overflowing with oil and fuel mixed together so I don't know if it has been damaged because of that but that was over a year ago. I would appreciate any help, thanks.
Could be several things causing problems, but lets start by making sure the four bolts that mount the engine to the frame are tight. they will back out slightly causing the engine to move on the frame, and will make knocking clunking sounds especially when starting and shutting off.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I just went and checked the bolts and they were all tight. But the bolts on one side of the engine were different sizes than the bolts on the other which makes me wonder if the engine has been off before.
