Briggs Intek Output shaft size and length? Any reference guides?

I have a Bobcat zero turn, model 218es with a Briggs Intel 18hp engine, model 405777. I have been working on her pretty steady over the past few seasons to keep it going but am planning on replacing the engine in the next season or two with something a little more commercial grade. Probably a Briggs Vanguard or maybe an Intek Commercial series. Is there a reference guide out there that can accurately tell me my crankshaft output size and length? I am getting multiple conflicting bits of information and would like to know if I can confirm it without pulling the electric PTO off and measuring by hand. So far here is what I have to go off of:

I have a spare engine in the shop, model 407777. Briggs customer support is telling me it is internally identical to my 405777. I measure the output shaft length and diameter on this engine and it is 3-5/32 long and 1' around. This I confirmed with my own two eyes. If it is the identical engine as mine currently installed unit then I would expect the shaft length and diameter to also be the same but when I went through a repower specialist they are insisting briggs says my current engine has a 4-5/16 long shaft that is 1-1/8 in diameter. I asked that they verify this info today based on what I know to be true above and they came back again and stated the were correct per the info from Briggs. Then I found this info on another repower website that confirms what the first report support professional stated, my engine is a 1-1/8 diameter shaft and 4-5/16 in length. There was also someone in another post of my earlier that checked on something when I was asking questions about my two engines who stated his records showed by the 405777 and the 407777 had 1 inch shafts that were 3-5/32 long. Finally I looked up some replacement PTO parts (specifically the part number for a new electric pto on my machine) and it states the internal diameter was 1-1/8. see here: https://www.stens.com/255-455-electric-pto-clutch . At this point I am thoroughly confused and thinking the only option I have is wait to order my new engine once my current one is pulled from the machine so I can verify this info prior to ordering but I just wanted to check to see if anyone knows of a way to confirm it? Briggs wouldn't come out and state the spec on it today, probably for some sort of liability reason I suspect, but they did sent me all kinds of data sheets I just don't see that info on any of them. Does anyone have concrete info for me?

How about posting the full model numbers of both engines complete with type and code, then we can run a full comparison between the two engines. Some of the 405577 may have a 1" shaft and some may have a 1 1/8" shaft.

Yea I saw that (posted that link above in my questions actually) and it is one of the reasons that I am confused. I am kinda leaning to the fact that the installed engine may be a 1-1/8 that is 4-5/16 long this says BUT I have already found a few errors in the bobcat manual so I tend to be a little suspicious. I suspect what might end up having to happen is that I keep the current engine going as long as I can and then do the swap as a winter project so I can take my time to pull the current engine, measure everything before ordering, and then reinstall the new power plant. I just like to have an idea in mind of what is out there, the cost ,series etc. For instance there are quite a few more affordable Vanguards with the 1" shaft than the 1-1/8 shaft AND because of mower and engine are design the larger shaft vanguards wont fit with the big canister air filters. Its simple stuff like this that I want to be planning on and researching. THanks for the help Blaz!

Per Briggs dealer site, both engine have a 1" 3.232 crankshaft, both use the same crank part number 691046 and the recommended replacement engine for both is a 44Q777-3137

See what I'm saying.... can't figure out why those links and the repower sites keep saying it's the other....

Even my parts manual for my machine has a shim in between the pto pulleys that's is 1-1/8 OD.... guess I'll have to tear it apart and see for myself.

I tried that but there looks to be some sort of collar or something and I can get a accurate shaft measurement unfortunately .

I just went back and rechecked the model number info on both your engines. Have to be real careful I mistyped your model number in the search of briggs The 405577-0112-e1 that I mistyped has a 1" by 3.232 shaft. your engine 405777-0112-e1 is 1 1/8" by 4.342

Ok now want to get totally confused. Your engines shows a replacement of 44L777-3136 but the specs on that engine show it has a 1" 3.232 crankshaft. But that engine shows a replacement of 44Q777-3136 with a 1 1/8" crankshaft 4.342 length But if I put that number into my dealer ordering site, it supercedes to a 44S877-0001-G1 also with the 1 1/8" 4.342 length.

Ok glad I'm not the only one who is crazy! Guess the only option is to pull it apart and physically measure before ordering.

I tried to take electric pto off the night and measure the night i had it torn apart fixing my charging issues but didn't know how to pull it off once the center bolt was removed. Is there a trick? I read that you don't use a puller or anything because it destroys the electric pto but mine sure didn't slide off like a few links stated on other tractors when I made a quick google search.

Also still doesn't explain why the Briggs tech I spoke too said the two engines i have here, the installed 405777 and the spare 407777, both have the same crank and are direct replacement for one another and the 407777 has the verified by caliper 1" shaft. O well, like someone else said.... what a mess.

Best way is to just get out the calipers and depth-mic. and measure for yourself ...
think these cranks are fun ..?? .... try sorting out "stack-pulleys" ...:confused2:
