Briggs Intek 15.5 OHV turns over fine but will not start

I have a Dixon ZTR with a Briggs Intek 15.5 OHV that's simply won't start. The mower is about 10 years old. I've had the carb off more times than I care to count. I've cleaned the carb several times with carb cleaner, ran a small wire through the passage ports and blew out everything with compressor. Reassemble and still will not fire. It will start right up as long as you dribble gas into the carb but dies when you stop. I replaced the fuel pump and filter a couple years back and it still seems to be fine. I have not put a kit in the carb since there is gas getting into the carb. The float, needle and seat appears to be fine. I don't see any type of adjustment on the float though. I ran into this same problem a couple years back and basically did all the same things, clean carb etc. I don't know all that much but everything I know points to the carb and I just can't see how.. seems simple as its just not drawing fuel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We need to know the model and type of the engine to determine what type carb it has on it. In lieu of that, install the carb kit. Things may "appear" fine when actually they are not. Good luck!

The engine is model #285H77 0116 E1 The carb is a Walbro # 2062 4179 (the last 4 may not be correct, its the best I can see those)

Thanks!

I would take the carb off one more time and find a repair shop that has an ultrasonic cleaner. Have them clean the carb and rebuild it with a new service kit. Just a thought, have you tried to run the engine by hooking a gravity feed fuel source to rule out a fuel pump problem.

I hadn't tried the gravity fed source. I'll give that a try just to rule it out. The fuel pump appears to be working well and just removed the carb again but this time saved the fuel when I pulled off the bowl and it appears to be an amount I would consider to fill the bowl.

Thanks for providing the engine numbers. Go to the B & S website and type in the same set of numbers (model and type), then take a look at the Walbro carb on the illustrated parts page. I haven't had that particular carb in my hands in a while but I seem to remember having a similar issue with one and the problem was with part # 106, inlet seat. I believe that it can fit in either direction but if it is upside down it just won't work. I can't recall right now which way it should go but that may be worth investigating. Hope that helps!!

Seat goes in with the rings toward the carb body.

I musta looked at that wrong 'cuz the part I was thinking about is made of metal and will only work one way.

If you had a brass seat, you might have not inserted it all the way in.

Does the carb have a fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carb? If so turn your key on and listen for a click. Sounds like no fuel is leaving the bowl thru the Jets.
