I have a Simplicity coronet with an 8.5hp Briggs that blew up.. I found a good running 12.5 Briggs from another Simplicity rider .. I gave $60 for the rider and motor .. I did the swap went to start it and nothing .. no power to the motor, so I checked the ignition switch, solenoid and safety switches and they check out okay .. I don't know much about wiring so I'm stumped .. I do however have power to the pto and clicks when engaged .. I will greatly appreciate any help in solving this issue .. Thanks !

Well to just crank the engine, the only thing you would have had to unhook for the engine swap is the big cable on the starter, what else did you unplug wire wise? The alternator wires yeah, but anything on the tractor. Check your fuse?

all I unhooked was the starter and engine wires.. all safety switches (2 of them) solenoid, ignition switch etc. all check out okay.. I studied the engine and wiring harness diagrams and it shows no fuse .. The only thing that's getting power to it is the pto clutch ... I inspected all the wiring and no signs of a short .. it's a Simplicity Coronet model 1692380 .. I'm stumped

Check all grounds making sure they're tight, also if paint is interfering with getting a good ground connection.

checked all grounds and are okay .. previous motor didn't have trouble with paint interupting ground so I didn't think it could have been an issue, I'll get back to you on that

OK, let's get real basic. Take a junk screwdriver and hold it across the 2 big terminals on the solenoid, and tell us what happens.

Also, take a pic of that solenoid and it's wiring to it.
