hi I am currently working on a Briggs 11hp engine model number 252707 from 1981 it hadn't run for a least a couple of years I brought the tractor from a neighbour for 」45 (that might sound a lot to you in the us but in the uk ride ons are actually pretty scares so prices are very high :frown:) it had been sitting in a barn. after getting it home I degreased and power washed it cleaned out the carb and adjusted it and replaced the original points and condenser spark system with electronic ignition the engine now runs pretty well but for some unknown reason it is hard to start on petrol even when hot only on starter fluid it does run on petrol but not start. it also has low compression normally I would say the engine was worn but there is ZERO smoke and you cannot feel any oil running out of the exhaust any idea's?

Do a compression check then put oil in the cylinder then do do another compression check and if the compression is better then you know that the rings are worn.

Pull the head and have a look. A good valve job is likely in order.
