Does anyone here have a solution to the plastic gear failures in my MTD 16.5 hp riding mower? I'm on my third gear they don't last one season. I'm considering mounting a pull rope on it. Mark

They should last way longer than that.......... Are you having to turn your engine over and over and over to get your engine started ??

Another thing you can do, is pull the plug wire off.... remove the shroud, and observe how the the gear and flywheel "mesh" when you hit the start switch, might be an alignment issue for some reason, is it the correct gear for that model starter..??
