Briggs and Stratton riding mower has no "spark". Why?

I have an older Briggs and Stratton riding mower that has a new spark plug but isn't receiving any spark. Why could that be? It ran like a champ last week, but a couple of days ago it just wouldn't start. Checked oil, etc., and found there is no spark happening. Please help.

First off though BS does own and manufacture lawn mowers they do not build any branded Briggs and Stratton. Like going the Auto Zone and asking for a part for you car and not knowing what it is you have. Model and serial no off the mower model type and code no. off engine.

most likely your ignition coil has failed, but like hlw49 said we need some specific model Info.

Hey. Thanks for your reply. I hear ya. The engine is 28B707-1146-E1. That's off the plate attached to the mower. I appreciate your help.

Pull the blower housing off, and then remove the small black kill wire from the coil and check for spark again.

Pulling the kill wire at the coil will tell you if it is the coil. If it is not the coil it will also tell you if it is in the safety switches on the machine. If it is not the coil the model no. off the mower will make it easier to diagnose. Someone here may have similar problem off one in the past and make it easier to diagnose.

Take the advice of the post above, but I think anybody that has worked on mowers has seen your exact issue more than once. I had a ignition module fail on a customers mower as I was loading it on the trailer to deliver to the customer after service. This past week I was working on a another customers mower and 4 pm on Tuesday it was running like a champ and was debating doing the invoicing on the performed repairs and calling the customer. On 8 AM Wednesday morning went to start it and and found that it was only running on one cylinder. Testing showed failed module.
