Hello all,

I recently bought a cub cadet zero turn that has a briggs and stratton model 407577 22 hp motor on it. When purchased I had jump the solenoid to get it running (key does nothing), however it would run wide open throttle.

I have done the following:
Changed both spark plugs
Changed oil
Changed solenoid
Changed air filter
Changed gas filter
Put new gas in it
Replaced carburetor with brand new one.

I still have to jump the solenoid to turn over the motor. However after making those changes, the mower will not stay running. It will run on starting fluid for 1-2 seconds then quit. The same thing will happen if I put gas directly into the intake/carburetor. When pulling off the gas line that hooks into the carburetor, there is always gas that comes out. So I would assume there is gas able to get into the carburetor.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Four things come to mind: fresh gas, fresh air, good spark, good compression. Check all wiring, especially ground straps from engine to chassis. Adjust valves with engine cold, specs. are in Operators Manual. Previous owner may have used water hose or pressure washer on mower, check connections for rust & corrosion. Post complete engine numbers, thanks, Mark

Have you check the main fuse? As if it is blown then nothing works including the fuel solenoid (anti afterfire device on the carburetor). Engine runs it has a magneto ignition system which requires no addition electrical power.

So somewhere between gas going into carb and the jet inside the carb is blocked up. If you spray you’ve put fuel past the jet into the combustion area. That’s why it starts. I’d say the carb needs a thorough clean out
