Briggs and Stratton Issue on my Yard Machine

Gentleman,

I have a Yard Machine (Model#3AF608G062 / Serial# 1E302H10062) with a 17.5HP Briggs and Stratton engine. I run the unit for about 2 Hours every week. Here is my issue.

After running the engine for about 2 hours, if I throttle down (All the way to idle) and shut the engine off, it backfires after shut off. Meaning engine comes to a complete stop followed by a loud 1 time backfire. (Sounds like a gun shot)

However if I let it idle about 5-10 minutes after use, it will never backfire.

It always starts right up. Never have any issues. Does not smoke.

How do I get rid of this backfire after engine stopping.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jeffrey

It's been mentioned that engines cool down quicker if running at wide open throttle so try killing it at WOT. If that doesn't work so well try leaving it run at WOT for 5-10 minutes being it cools quicker.

Could be a problem with the fuel solenoid on the carb, or could be muffler related. On some engines they will never backfire. on others you can't stop it from backfiring. it is luck of the draw sometimes.
