Hello all. I am pretty familiar with engines, but this is my first tinker with a smaller engine. I have a Briggs and Stratton 5 HP. It is 130202, but uses the magneto and flywheel instead of points and condenser. I was trying to get this engine to run after buying a new fuel tank for it. Something was wrong with the carb of the old one. Anyways, I was using the drill to start it with a 15/16 socket with an extension, one reason is to save wear and tear on my recoil. Two, is because once I got it to run under its own power from gas, I put it back together, and the pull start did not want to start the engine. I took the assembly off and put the drill to it, but after I got it to start, the crank shaft broke just inside the flywheel. It ran for about a minute before it died. I finally got a new crankshaft and starter clutch installed after a month, and this time, when i sprayed engine starting fluid into the intake it acted like it wanted to start, but it did not turn the engine over under its own power. I made sure to align the cam and the crankshaft gear, and installed new rings. I would use the drill method again, but the socket just slips now, it doesnt catch. Any ideas? It doesnt even make a popping sound, just the sound you would hear right before the engine would begin to make revolutions. :frown:
