briggs 692532, 280860, 271157 and 692532 O-ring dimensions

692532, 280860, 271157 and 692532: These are the various P/Ns for the dipstick tube O-ring, in this case on a B&S 18hp Opposed series II flathead. Does anyone have the I.D and cross section dimensions of a new part? Thank you!

These Opposed twin engines were built to specification for many different manufacturer's machines, so the parts are not always the same. That is why you find so many part number variables.

You need to look up the parts using the engine product identification plate information located on the top fan cover. I use Parts Tree most of the time to verify the exact part number, then look for them on eBay.

Hi Auto Doc's, I have no issue with finding part numbers (obviously, as I have them already :-) ). Those are all part numbers for the same part, just supercedes. What I have issue with is paying "brand name prices" for a simple o-ring. With accurate dimensions I can shop for a generic part and get multiple pcs for the same cost. Thanks!

Not all O-rings are made from the same material. Generic O-rings can be a luck of the draw because most are produced in mass quantity overseas.

I've had trouble with poor quality O-rings and fuel lines that would split. Lately, I just bite the bullet and pay for OE to avoid issues later.

Shopping around on eBay helps most of the time because people sell off their surplus genuine stuff much cheaper than retail.
 
$4.94 for the real thing from Briggs plus shipping. If you figure out other things you need - air filter, plug(s), anything else and it comes to around $70 the shipping is free. Or I'll bet your local mower shop sells them too.

Now you got to figure what material they used, is the material used Buna-N or Hi Temp Silicon. Probably want go with a Durometer 70A (Medium) version.

If you go with Buna-N you can get a 100 for $9 plus shipping.

the one we got for a different mower looked and felt like Viton. The original was not leaking after 20 years and still had good form. I replaced it only on general practice when rebuilding the engine.
