Changed the oil on a friends craftsman m# 917.376052
It had never been serviced. I went to drain oil nothing came out. Put some oil in ran it then drained then refilled. Now he says it's blowin oil all over the deck. When I originally started it it sounded like it was gonna throw the rod. The fresh oil did make it sound a little better.
Any ideas?

Something could have cracked after heating up since it appears no oil was in it and it would have taken a little time to circulate through, there could have been too much oil in it since you drained it and refilled as some could have been left in.

Sounds like your friend is deserving of the repair bill he's about to get or the cost of a new mower. Tell him this is why you take care of your equipment properly and have some self respect with regards to things you own.

I wouldn't go down the road of being his repair guy, he could be calling you for LOTS of stuff LOL!

Too much oil in engine or has been.
Or
Mower has been on its side.
Or
He is operating at excessive angles.
Or
Wrong viscosity and rating of oil.

Check the dipstick tube is secure in the crankcase, O ring not defective.

Check breather assy, it's behind the exhaust secured by two small bolts, they have been known to stick and cause crankcase pressure.

Good luck, Phil
