Model 126T02-0114-B1 on a Sears pressure washer. Engine is getting spark and fuel but will not fire. Removed plug and noticing when starter rope is pulled, instead of air being sucked into cylinder head, there is only blow back. Checked flywheel key to see if possibly out of time but there is no damage (replaced it anyway). Removed head and valves are moving as they should. Could a bad head gasket be causing these symptoms?

Well you have to put a new gasket on it anyway. When you get the head back on and torqued right. Take some gas and squirt some in the carb then pull the rope a couple times. If it pops then a carb kit is in order. Maybe not it might be the bowl nut which is a jet. 1 hole at the top and 2 on the sides that go straight thru. Clean those holes first and try it. Leave the bowl on if it stays. Screw the nut back on and give it a try..........

Hope this helps ~!~!

When you take the spark plug out and pull the rope it is suppose to blow compression out of the hole............

Check your muffler to make sure that mud dobbers have not plugged the exhaust hole with mud.
I have had that happen on weed wackers, but not mowers.
It is possible and definitely will prevent the motor from breathing.......

If you do need a kit the Briggs number is 498260 Don't skimp and buy a cheap aftermarket kit Please don't do that !~!~!

Yes . If you have compression , spin the engine over a few times in case it is flooded . Then pour a tad of gas in the spark plug hole to " prime " , replace the spark plug and try to start it .

Turns out the carb was plugged. I guess it's always the obvious. Thanks to all for the replies....
