I have a Briggs 19.5hp that had a bad camshaft in it, I replaced it and the mower would start fine when cold , harder to crank when hot. Now, it wont crank with a new 340cca battery and booster cables from the truck connected. Ive tried readjusting the valves (intake .005 exhaust .006), did not help at all, it wont even crank with the sparkplug very loose. Ive replaced the pushrods thinking I might've had the crossed (steel on exhaust aluminum on intake), readjusted valves quite a few times, replaced rockers, replaced starter motor, checked head bolts, checked pushrod bolts, and removed sparkplug completely and engine cranks over like normal, and valves move like normal. Am i overlooking something? Thank you for any help. Sam

Need to recheck to make sure the compression release is actually working. Remove valve cover and turn engine over by hand while watching for the intake(bottom) valve bump just prior to TDC compression stroke. The other side effect of the cam issue if ignored for a period of time is it takes out the starter. So you could have a starter issue.
