Briggs 190407 putting this regulator/rectifier place of the diode?

If I bought this two wire regulator rectifier can I just splice it into my diode wire and run the red wire to my keyswitch were the diode wire plugged into the keyswitch? If this will work on my Briggs 8hp can anyone tell me weather the red wire goes to my keyswitch or directly to my battery?

Yes, this should work. Make sure that the metallic part of the regulator has a good ground. Also, you want to wire it to the key switch, not the battery, because there will be a tiny bit of discharge current through the regulator when the engine is off if you directly connect it to the battery, which will make your battery go dead. So, you only want a connection between the regulator output and the battery when the key is on.
