I have a John Deere 116 mower with my snowblower attached. Recently I've been having motor issues with the 16 hp. The motor has been knocking and using oil, starting terribly hard, has a stripped plug hole. Recently found the head bolts all loose. Tightened everything down and ran like a champ. Now wont start or even attempt to fire off.
So my question is I have the 16 hp (M#402707 Type#0148 01) and an 18 hp (M#422707 Type 1510 01)
The 18 had the valve seat come out and destroyed the block. Everything internal is in good shape.
What all can i swap to the 16 hp block to make one motor out of both that would run great and still be dependable?
I am very mechanical to do the tear down and swap. Just would like to know if im thinking right since the valves and pistons measure the same size.
Being that we are not there to see both engines and see which parts you are going to need, you are going to have to do what we are asked to do many times. Go to the website below and follow the instructions to get a parts breakdown with part numbers for both engines. Then you will have to go through each one to see which parts you need are different and which are the same. I do not know of a site which shows compatability between engines.
