Brake pads on 42 inch Craftsman LT

Sears number 917.256810, older 15.5 briggs model

I have been nursing this tractor for a while, and hope to get a few more years out of it. It is becoming slightly difficult to shift and the brakes don't seem to be working well. I haven't gotten into it yet but wanted to gather some parts before I start. I understand there is an adjustment on the brakes and the pads can be changed. There seems to be a disagreement on whether there is an adjustment on the clutch. I wanted to order the pads prior to taking anything apart but they keep showing up as not available. I know they sold a bunch of this style mower for many years so I am sure there is a get around for not having the parts available. Any advice would be appreciated.

Most of these riding mower transaxles are using a common type disc brake you can disassemble the brake and check the pads for wear if after adjusting does not work, you could order a set of pads ( inexpensive ) from most any mower transaxle and try to match them up. see below link........

Thanks for the prompt response1 I had researched this on youtube but didn't come across some of the videos which should be helpful. I really liked the first one as it explained things well and the visuals were clear.

After seeing this I am more tempted to go ahead and take this apart without having the pads on hand. It's very likely I could have something sticking/rusted. The person who gave me this mower had a very small suburban yard with no hills so little hard braking involved. I will disassemble and clean/lubricate. This will give me a chance to measure the pads and make sure I order the proper size, if needed. That way I won't have the mower down waiting for parts and it should be very easy to disassemble the 2nd time as it will be clean. Thanks for the parts links also.
