Hi new to the form, looking foreword to giving and receiving input. I'm working on a Bolins BL100 grass trimmer for my son.He gave to me to fix a leaking gas issue,I replaced the fuel lines from the line I purchased from a repair shop, but it still leaked. I then purchased a fuel line repair kit to fit this model, fixed the leak (great) but now the problem starts. When I start it I push primer 4 time and close the choke, the trimmer starts but only idles for about 5 seconds then quits,I then put on half choke pull the cord it starts and revs up for a few seconds and quits again. I then open to all the way pull cord it revs up for a split second and quits again. I tore the carb down and cleaned it,cleaned the air filter, tried loosening the gas cap and nothing changes.Any fellow small engine techs have any idea on what I could be missing......Thanks
There could actually be a couple of different issues. Yes, it could be the carb plugged up partially. when disassembling the carb, make sure to go through all of the passageways. spritz through them with carb cleaner. you could also use Mechanic in a Bottle and let the carb sit over night. MIB is availabe at Home Depot.
another issue could be an air leak. if the gaskets leak air, the unit will run too lean and will not run. if it will not start and run, it is difficult to find an air leak.
one other issue could be a lack of compression. most 2-cycle units need a minimum of 100 psi to run however, these Bolens units can get by with as little as 85psi.
