2005 (or 2006) Bolens riding mower
Briggs and Stratton engine 282H07 / 0600 E1 / 061201ZE
Nikki Carburetor

The mower would not idle because of a faulty O-ring in the carburetor. After replacing the O-ring and spiderweb gasket it will idle now but it sputters a lot.

When the throttle is at the "Run" position it will sputter while idling. But if I move the throttle half way between Run and Choke it will smooth out for a minute or so then it will start sputtering like it is about to die unless I move it back to Run. However, if I engage the blades the motor will run with no problems.

The air cleaner is not dirty at all and the spark plug has no corrosion. This leads me to think it is a faulty/dirty jet or a bad mixture.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks, J

Sounds like the carb needs a good teardown and cleaning.
