Blue smoke everywhere

I have a 30" Murry ride on mower, MODEL 309000x8B with a
12 horse B&S Engine,
Model: 28R707
Type: 1120-E1
Code: 036822z0

I just replaced the float valve and seat in the carb because gas was pouring out of the carburetor. That went well and I got the leaking gas to stop. When I started the engine, after about 10 seconds, I saw a bit of blue smoke coming from the muffler. I shut it down but saw nothing burning. Restarted the mower, and engaged the blades. With the additional load, the engine stalled in a huge cloud of blue smoke that seemed to be coming from everywhere. I don't dare try to start it again.
Any thoughts? My thought is maybe a head gasket, but...
Does this sound like a big job to fix?
Thank you

First, check the oil level and odor. If the oil level is high or smells like gasoline you need to change the oil immediately. I have seen where gasoline will make its way into the crank case when the float does not seal properly and cause a lot of white or blue smoke to come out of the exhaust. Changing the oil helped my situation that was caused by gasoline-contaminated engine oil.

Sounds like a plan.
I'll check it out tomorrow. Looks like rain is coming.
I'll post what I find out.
Thanks.

Question. When you were doing what you did to the carb, did you have the machine tipped over on its side? If so, then oil from the crankcase will have gotten into the cylinder head and out through the exhaust valve into the muffler. No big deal. Just start her up and wait for the oil in the head, exhaust port and muffler to burn off. It might take a minute or two but providing the engine sounds okay, don't worry. Tell the neighbours what you are doing otherwise they might call the fire department.

Thanks for replying.
Actually, The engine remained upright. I took the carburetor off to work on it.
The engine was never tipped.
Still didn't get a chance to go "smell the oil' for gas odor.

Yup, just as Lawnranger said.
The oil was a little thin, full, and smelled of gasoline.
I will replace the oil and post my results.
Thanks.
