Neighbor just asked me if I had ever heard of Blue DEF being used as a lawn fertilizer. Never heard of this,but I told him I would see if I could find any info on It. Little research says it is used that way, but the results are mixed. Has anyone heard on this or tried it? Time to educate this old fart.

I have heard of people purchasing the expired DEF by the tote, from ag supply companies and using it for lawn fertilizer. It is mostly Urea and high in nitrogen.

It is also used in cattle feed, but I wouldn't drink it...

It’s not uncommon for automotive products to come up in non-related contexts, but **Blue DEF** (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is specifically designed to reduce emissions in diesel engines and isn’t meant to be used as lawn fertilizer. While it does contain urea, which is found in some fertilizers, the concentration and other compounds in Blue DEF could actually be harmful to your soil or plants.
It's best to stick with fertilizers that are made for lawns, designed to deliver the right nutrients without the risks. Letting your neighbor know that Blue DEF isn’t safe for the lawn would be good advice, and it'll definitely earn you points as the "informed neighbor"

Urea is also in some dairy cattle feed. But you are right, urea won't help your lawn unless you know exactly what you are doing, and know exactly what your lawn needs...
