I have a Sears riding mower model number 917.254850 w/14 HP Kohler motor. Will not turn over only blows fuses. Three, one 25 amp and two 30 amp fuses. Have 12volts to the starter switch, but turn to the start position, pop goes the fuse. Any ideas?
This doesn't help you but I have a short finder made by Snap-On Tools and use it for just that purpose. You will have to open the harness and trace the wires to find the one that is shorted to ground. Start by looking at the areas that go around sharp corners or where there is no outer black shield around the harness. Good luck.
As LawnRanger said check for frayed wires first. If you find none try this. With the parking brake set and the key in the on position try jumping the starter. Negative to a good ground and positive to the starter terminal. Let us know what happens.
