Blower 32cc ohv starting issue after short block replacement

Hey guys,

I replaced my short block after the last one cracked.

I got it all together and started it to break the pawl. I bought another pawl but wanted to ask if the engine is setup right before I mess up another pawl trying to start it.

The cord was hard to pull because it felt as if it was trying to go over a speed bump when pulling the cord or hand turning the engine. When I pulled it, it snapped a tab on the pawl keeping me from being able to pull the cord at all now. I checked the valves to see if they were adjusted with proper clearance. They looked good clearance wise with a feeler gauge but they don’t look to be both closed at tdc. I’m attaching a photo to get your guys opinion. I hand turned the engine for a while and never got the valves to be both in the same position at tdc.

Are the valves correctly positioned for tdc? Is that the reason the engine feels like it is going over a bump when I hand crank it?

Thank you

I would think that both valves should be setting at the same height if they were closed. Maybe you are off one complete revolution. Also appears that one adjuster is turned down more than the other. I just hope that the what appears to be an open valve hasn't slammed into the top of the piston

Valve spring keepers are on upside down.

I wonder if that little engine uses different length pushrods?

I looked at it some more and I think I’m wrong, keepers on correct, sorry.

I fixed the issue with valves by removing springs adjusting everything.
Thanks
