Blades Engage then Quit

SCAG - 16BV with new Kawasaki electric start. Original clutch wires were torn out of clutch, ordered new one, removed original bushing and swapped to new clutch. Plugged everything in, blades run a few seconds then quit. With the engine off, and the key in the on position I can activate the PTO switch and hear the clutch coming on and off. For some reason the blades will not stay engaged. Thoughts?

No, was functioning perfectly. The ran something under the deck pretty large that some how grabbed the clutch wires and sheared one of them off flush with the clutch so there was no way to repair. Installed new clutch and now this issue...

There may some damage to the wire harness above the clutch connector, or possibly the PTO switch if the torn up clutch wire was shorted to ground. Is the charging system functioning correctly?
Your operators manual has a wiring diagram. If you don't have an operators manual you can download one at the Scag website, you will need the model and serial number from your machine.

Yes, it is charging properly. The PTO switch and wires seem to operating properly as when I engage and disengage the switch the current comes and go as requested. I am thinking that the problem was with the new clutch. I have ordered another one and re test when it arrives.

For sure, even though a part is new doesn't mean that it is good or works. Check the problematic clutch with an Ohmmeter to see if it is within spec. Also check from each leg to ground to see if the coil has shorted to ground.
I always check new clutches this way and also check their air gap if that type before installing. New clutches need to be burnished before use. I see that you have a few machines!!!
