Blade interference

OK this problem is driving me nuts, I bought a used laser Z with 150 hours on it last year didn’t have much trouble with it but this year I went to change the blades on it and the blade bolt was rounded off so I rather than having this old man crawl around on his back, trying to get the blade off. I took it to the dealer. He put a new set of blades and bolts in it.

The eXmark is a LZE751GKA60RA 1 (rear discharge deck)

That was five or six weeks ago and ever since I’ve heard a slight blade interference noise and I finally got around to thinking I would try to fix it today.

So I put on a new set of blades that I had in stock and no matter how I clock these blades I get in even worse blade interference noise. I’ve been under that mower five times today and I am getting tired of it.

Does anyone have a clue what I’m doing wrong or how do to proceed with fixing this problem?

Do the blades touch each other?
Does the left blade touch the middle blade?
Does the right blade touch the middle blade?
If both outside blades touch the middle blade, the blades are too long.
If one side touches the middle blade, the deck may be bent.
The blades are supposed to be 20.5” long (measured diagonally). The center hole is 15/16” in diameter.

Yes, there is evidence of the left blade and the middle blade, hitting each other, and “peening” the corner of the blades off .
The older blades that the dealer installed five or six weeks ago have a about as much damage done to the tips as the brand new blades that I’ve only run for a couple minutes total today.

I will check the measurements in the morning. Thank you for the information.

Both sets of blades are eXmark branded blades and the dealer said it’s specifically for the rear discharge deck.

The “funky” right blade doesn’t seem to interfere with the middle blade at all

Take a grinder and slightly take a little metal off of the end of the blade, but not too much so it rooster tails the grass.

Most likely the center mounting hole was done a little off center. When you this type problem measuring the blade length from tip to tip don't tell if the blade is centered correctly.

And as said just a little off the longer side but also check the balance afterwards as you might need to re-balance the blade.

But lately I have been finding a lot of new blades out of balance from the factory so I been balancing them before installing them anyways.

I would imagine that the mower hit something pretty hard at some point. I would be looking at the left spindle and it’s mounting surface on the deck. Check all of them. But, the left side is where I would start looking.

Well, I took it to the eXmark dealer today and they found that the left blade bushing was installed improperly so I don’t know if I was either that caused it (improperly installed the bushing)or it was done by the mechanic that put the new blades on from the time I had it in and had The rounded off bolt that they removed and replaced all the blades and bolts….

All I know is they charge me for today’s service because I can’t say for sure if it was me who incorrectly installed the bushing. All I know is it was impacting on that set of blades they installed and it got worse when I put new blades on it this time.

I did one blade at a time and sure thought I put the blades on the way the other blades had been installed….

All I know is I don’t work on my back very well anymore @ 72 yrs old

Does anybody have a good mower lift design that you can raise the mower up and work on the deck without laying on your back?

I may even trade this thing in for a country clipper, it’s only mower I know of that you can easily work on the deck.

Any other suggestions?
I was very happy with my 21-year-old eXmark but this two year old eXmark is not built the way my old one was, one more thing I don’t care for is the way the bushing centers the blade on the spindle…….

Go online and search “mower lifts.” Glad you got the issue resolved. The last mower you want is a Country Clipper.

Do you have a place to mount a chain hoist?
Walker’s have flip up decks.

I have a chain hoist mounted and hang lawn tractors straight up if needed.
I could skin them if they had hair and hide. I have to pull the battery and make sure oil/gas is contained if they go completely vertical.

You might not have to go completely vertical with your zero turn. The hoist would certainly lift it higher than a floor jack or mower jack.

Have you consider taking the mower back to the dealer for a professional inspection? They may have specialized tools and equipment to diagnose the problem.
