Belts

I have a MTD Yard Machine and the transmission belt came off and it was cracked so I replaced it now almost every time I put it in reverse the belt comes off HELP

Are the screws or screw missing from the tranmission support bracket. I have seen more than one where the bracket came loose, and would through the belt when put in reverse because the tranny tilts when you stop going backwards

all screws are there. The belt comes off as soon as I release the clutch some times it looks like the idler pulley sticks for a second but not every time the belt comes off

Try some Grease on the pulley mount and spring. It could be getting hung up or delayed motion due to dirt or surface rust . There are no missing belt L shaped guides ?
