So I’m at my daughters for Easter and her lawn mower was not working. After she put it away last fall she changed the mower deck belt, when I tried to start it wouldn’t turn over. Now to cut to the quick, the problem was the deck belt was too small putting too much pressure on the pulley preventing the starter from being able to turn over. Removed this belt and it started right up. So I looked inside the hood for the part number, looked at the model number for the part number and of course find no longer available use alternative part number. Ordered one online and when installed it is too big. So my dilemma is what should I use? The old part number was 197253, 1/2” x 100 1/4”supposedly replacement is 592855001 supposedly 1/2” x 100 1/2”. I figured would work but too big no matter what adjustments I make. Replacement I tried was a Husqvarna 592 85 50 01. Of course no one is open for much longer. Any suggestions on size I should try is appreciated. The mower model number is 917.250811. mower deck 42”.

Actually according the IPL for 917.250811 mower, the belt is 429636 superseded to 598559101 which is 1/2 x 101-1/4".

The 197253 superseded to 592855001 is the drive belt and is also 1/2 x 100.50 but they now claiming it is 1/2 x 101-1/16. On this one I would stick with the 100.50 drive belt if it ever needs replacing. Don't know when Sears decide to change it length specs.

So I was successful at getting the .5x100 belt to work. The Husqvarna belt that was listed as a replacement was definitely longer.
