Before you go any further... How much is your machine worth?
Is there any burned or a strong odor present? From any electrical components? Sorry to say that reverse polarity has probably the worst damage potential, besides also a voltage spike.

Your battery may be damaged. Start there.
I would test the starter motor for unloaded operation. Maybe only a simple relay was damaged.
The ignition module may also be cooked, but first get the starter to turn normally by the battery.

Before you buy any expensive parts or labor... How much is your machine worth?

Also check around for blown fuses
