Basic Lawn-boy vs Toro vs Honda for a small front and back yard

Hello everyone,

My electric Craftsman finally died and I want to get a basic gas mower.

I live in Canada, so the selection may not be as good as in the US.

I've found 3 mowers that seem decent. I don't need any fancy gadgets like assisted drive etc. I simply want a reliable mower with a bag on the back.

I've found a Lawn-Boy with a Honda engine for $329 on sale at Home Depot:

Lawn-Boy | Lawn-Boy 21 Inch Honda High Wheel Push Gas Walk Behind Lawn Mower | Home Depot Canada

A Toro with an unknown motor at Home Depot for $379 on sale at Home Depot:

TORO | High Wheel/Variable Speed Mower | Home Depot Canada

And a Honda HRR216PKC at Honda Dealers on sale for $479 plus PDI and Freight which will add another $50:

Honda Canada

I can't find many reviews on the Lawn-Boy. I'm attracted to it for the Honda engine. Does anyone have any thoughts on if it's better to buy the Toro and spend significantly more and get the Honda HRR216PKC? I'm fine spending the extra money if the quality is there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to make a decision fairly quickly as I want to buy something while the sales are still on.

Thanks
James

I have a Toro Personal Pace that I use for mowing around all the trees and tight spaces. It is about 5 years old, and is hands down the best mower I've ever had. Home Depot is showing it on sale here in the US for $334.

I recently bought that same Honda mower to replace an older Honda mower. It is $389 here in the U.S. at the local Honda dealership. I abused the old mower and it still started on the first pull when I got rid of it. I hit a stump and bent the shaft and didn't want to put the money into a 13 year old mower, so I bought a new one. As embarrassing as it is to say I never changed the oil in that older mower ever and it never missed a beat. I was young and dumb and I do change oil now, but that mower impressed me enough that I had to buy another one. It seems like the lawn boy with the Honda engine is also getting good reviews.

Isn't a new LawnBoy the same as a Toro or atleast the 20 inch version? Looks like the 21 inch has a different deck design.

I would go with one of the options that has the Honda engine. If you can afford the complete Honda mower then I would do that one. Parts, service and advice are a plenty for them.

Well The lawn Boy and the Honda have the same engine, the GCV 160 so to buy the Honda wouldn't be a good deal considering the price difference between the two. The Toro would be the better mower of the three IMO it has a Kohler engine. I can tell you from my experience that the GCV 160 Honda is way under powered, if you could find the Honda with the 190cc it would be a better engine.
