My 60" does not keep the battery charged. Runs great when battery is charged, gets to a certain discharge point and the engine starts popping and chugging when the blades are engaged. Turn the blades off and smooth idle comes back. I have to keep this thing on a charger even with a brand new battery. Anybody have any experience with this issue. I don't know what to fix.

First posting the model number tag helps on the mower side of the wiring and then also the engine Make, Model, and Spec (Type) numbers. Just to note this maybe a partially shorted electric PTO problem.
Have you checked the battery voltage while the unit is running. At idle it should read about 13.4V and as you increase engine speed you should see the voltage climb. If it doesn’t, you charging system is not working.
