Turned ignition key on with engine off and loud knock occurs. Sounds like rod knock. Start engine , knock continues. No problems b4 todsy. Ideas, suggestions
Are you saying the knock occurs when you first turn the key on or does it start knocking when the engine is cranking to start and then continues. May want to check the motor mounting bolts. It doesn't take much to create movement and a knocking noise on start up, shutdown, and during acceleration.
When the ignition key is turned to on position it knocks. No attempt to crank, yet. Just key on. Weird, huh? Then when crank and engine starts, the knocking continues.
About the only thing I can think of that would have enough mass to clunk on key on would be the electric pto clutch engaging, but then the deck would be trying to turn when the engine was cranking, and then run after being started. Still may be worth a look as far a bad bearing, or on some mowers the clutch is electric hot on key on and uses the ground to engage and disengage, so a short could cause issues.
Checking it out this morning found the motor that raises/lowers blades/deck was source of knock, so last person that used it put the deck up past stop. Thank you for the input. This forum is great
That will do it. thanks for posting the solution for your problem. Didn't think about the electric servo lift motor knocking trying to go past the stop point
