I have a troy built ride on....the governor is bad or needs rebuilt at best.......So I am trying to figure out if its worth fixing or not... Not something I can do myself (dont think) How long of a job is it to tear everything down to be able to replace it and put it all back together?? Like a 2 hr job or a full day for someone who knows what they are doing? I dont want to put a ton of cash into it because its old and well just a troy built to begin with

thanks

Depends on which engine you have. For the most part about a 2-3 hour job for a skilled mechanic.

How old is the engine? How many hours? Reason I ask is if you have the engine that far apart you might want to do some more work on it. Also, you may want to look into a short block, if the engine has internal wear. I always recommend doing a lot of checks whenever you open an engine to see if it is really worth sticking any money into.

its probably 10 years old...dont know hours but its def. been used over the years......I'm not doing the work though so would hate to pay someone to tear it down to then decide its not worth it. Would hate to put the $ in it for something else to go next month.

What does it do that makes you feel it is the governor?

ok the story is I was riding it and pop it started running wide open......runs wide open whenever started......my buddy looked at it and showed me that he could hand control the throttle but the governor is not regulating it.....it just runs fully open all the time

Are you missing the governor return spring? What brand of engine is it?
