B&S V Twin 30 hp commercial engine leaking oil

I have a friend with a Scag Freedom Z with a 30 hp Briggs & Stratton V twin with cyclonic air filter that has a oil leak. Its in the shop under warranty being repaired.Shop says the pan gasket is leaking. His worry is this a common issue with these "commercial engines"?

I wish I had a commercial Briggs to see, but I can tell you my Intek 24 leaks. The defect is vibration which loosens the pan bolts 'til they fall out. Further vibration and normal crank case pressure will finally blow out a section of the pan gasket . The fix is to do a tear down or live with the leak and keep chasing the pan bolts so the leak is minimized. IMO

It would have been helpful if you had given the model number of the engine. B&S has had a sump gasket problem with some V twin engines and as a result they have put out a kit with improved gasket, new high tinsel bolts and a greatly increased torque setting. I expect that kit will be used with warranty work.

The engine in question is a 49M977-1036-G5 Commercial Turf Briggs.
I have one of these on my Scag tiger Cub repower, no leaks and no problems so far, about 350 hours on it at this time.
Generally these engines have been good.

Apparently per the dealer this is a problem that may or may not rear its ugly head so to speak. They told my friend that the fix will take care of the problem. FYI my friends Freedom Z has 100 hours on it.
