I was just working on a fairly new edger with a 3 1/2 HP Briggs engine with starter problems. I got out my old starter clutch removal tool and was shocked to see that after almost 40 years of a tried and true starting system, they switched to the plastic "pawl" type system which is doomed to failure. Why did they switch from something that has performed flawlessly over the years to this? Sheesh.
