rusted bolts

Just got a 42" mtd mower with a 15.5 hp. b/s engine, Mod# 283h07-Type#0197e1-Code#040227zd. Engine is off mower in box, Valve cover off, Missing intake pushrod. Everything else there. So what is the story on these engines, Did they eat Valves, Cams, Push rods, Rocker Arms? Did it have a Alumm intake push rod? Is it better to use a steel exhaust push rod? Do the intake valves stick on these engines? Everything else on this mower is like new. Was a tag on the engine from a repair shop that said it could have a bad intake valve. Owners decided to buy a new mower. That's all the info I have. THANKS for any answers.

ILENGINE

There was an occasional engine that would wear down the lobes on the camshaft, but wasn't that frequent. Most the the problems are from the valves don't stay adjusted on some engines. The intake pushrod is aluminum and tends to wear where it goes through the pushrod plate. the problem is mostly due to improper maintenance, like not changing the oil. I have see one engine stick the exhaust valve open and go through the piston. Also have seen exhaust valve seats come out of the head, due to not keeping the cooling fins clean. This is all general information for the single cylinder engine.
