I have B & S :44Q777-3137-G5I am haveing trouble adjusting the governor the motor is a add on to a john deer rideing mower, the engine is brand new, the engine keeps running at full speed and i can not slow it down, this is how it come to me to fix,
First check that your idle stop screw is screwed "out". Make sure that your throttle linkage is free-moving. Start engine and manually move the linkage. Does the engine slow down? Stop engine. When your throttle control is in the slow position, does the throttle linkage freely move back and forth? It should. Now move the throttle to the fast position. You will feel resistance on the linkage due to the governor spring. If you "do" feel resistance, then your governor arm is out of adjustment to the gov shaft. To correct this, move your throttle to "fast" and notice which way the gov "arm" moves. Loosen the nut on the gov arm and rotate the gov shaft as far as it will go in the SAME direction that the arm moved (in the fast position) Hold the arm and shaft and tighten the nut that secures the arm to shaft. This is usually pre-set in a new engine, but things happen
