First, please post the engine make and model for the experts on this site to be able to reference. It is usually stamped on the valve cover for Briggs. It sounds like your engine might be overdue for a valve lash adjustment. With valve cover off check for bent pushrods and full motion of rocker arms. If you havent removed your engine cover, it should be removed to clean fins and check for rats nest. Check coil wires at same time because rats love to chew them. BTW engine fins should be cleaned at begining of each season. Post back and let us know what you find.
