B&S Backfire

Good Morning All. 3 years ago a purchased a Ferris IS700Z with a 27HP Model 49T877. The engine has taken to backfiring quite a bit. I have changed plugs and done a Seafoam cleaning but to no avail. Can someone give me a little assistance as to my next steps to eliminate this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First, please post the engine make and model for the experts on this site to be able to reference. It is usually stamped on the valve cover for Briggs. It sounds like your engine might be overdue for a valve lash adjustment. With valve cover off check for bent pushrods and full motion of rocker arms. If you havent removed your engine cover, it should be removed to clean fins and check for rats nest. Check coil wires at same time because rats love to chew them. BTW engine fins should be cleaned at begining of each season. Post back and let us know what you find.

Thanks for your reply. The Engine is a Briggs and Stratton 27 HP Model 49T877
I have pulled the shrouds and blew out things i.e. grass, dirt, etc. I will check over the wires for problems.
A friend of mine felt a valve adj is probably the problem. That sounds like a good winter project when I usually give all the equipment a thorough going over. Thanks for the reply

Backfire can be caused from improperly working fuel solenoid on the carb, valves out of adjustment, engine running lean causing overly high operating temperatures, to glowing embers inside the muffler.
