B&S 9HP throttle cable connect

Okay, so I am new to this forum, so I apologize ahead of time if I am breaking any policies. However, I have searched/Googled/YouTubed exhaustively and cannot find much information about this model engine. I recently bought a 9HP vertical shaft B&S engine, brand new still in the box (though an older model) and I am using it as a pet/learning project for me. Essentially, I am installing it on a standard lawnmower deck (don't laugh). So far, I've been able to modify the mounting flange on the deck to install it nice and snug, and everything seems centered up nice. Blade is installed and looks good. However, I am unable to figure out how the throttle/choke system on this motor works. It is a model 288702 vertical shaft, and I have not been able to find any information about this motor online other than a few parts diagrams at third-party resalers.

Basically, I cannot figure out what kind of throttle/choke cable I need to make this engine work. It doesn't appear that the standard Z-bend cable attaches to it, unless there is something I'm missing. See attached pics. I am perfectly fine with buying a new throttle cable, I just want to make sure that what I buy is going to work. It appears that when you pull the throttle cable out to the maximum, it chokes the carburetor.

Please, any advice on what I might need to do?

Thank you.

You need a cable with a "Z" bend on the end and that end goes into the hole of the while sliding piece.

Love the engine mount MacGyver style.

That was my first thought, but that hole is so tiny on that white piece. I was almost wondering if there was something missing or broken off that white piece.

You have the wrong style cable for that application. The correct throttle cable is smaller diamete rand has a solid wire not a braided wire and the Z is the same diameter as the solid steel cable.

Here is an example look at the end

Some cables are universal so they will be too long and then have to be cut to length and then use a Z bender or if you are good can use pliers to make the Z on the end of the cable.

Perfect. Thank you for this information. I will get that and try it.
