I picked up a roto tiller, Snapper model 300 with a Briggs and Stratton model 80202, type 0510-01. Any idea about what year it might be? I am planning on rebuilding the engine.
Thanks, jb4249

If you look at the Code number next to the model and type, The first two numbers are the year, the next two are the month, and the next two the date of manufacture.

The code is 140320. I don't know how to decode that.

I scrapped some rust off and you are right. A 1974.
Thanks, Ted

Probably not too much. Starter pulled out, tank rusty, carb crusty, and not spark. I would like to get it to running and good looking condition. Probably use it on a go cart or mini bike for my grand son.

A '74 probably has points. I suggest you replace the coil with an updated CDI coil. You won't have to remove the flywheel. Just cut the primary wire and install the new coil. Simple repair to get spark in an old engine.
