I have just become an owner of a 1648 ariens ztr mower. It has been sitting for a while and I just recently got it running ( engine that is). When I move the steering levers forward or reverse it doesn't move. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Step one...move the seat forward and see if the drive belt is intact. It is the one nearest you as you look down.

you might also check to see if the drives are engaged... most (if not all) ZTR's have a release lever to release the hydros so you can move them w/o the eng.

Drive release/engage should be at the rear and will look like a couple of golf balls threaded onto rod...

Thanks for all the informatin. I checked the items suggested. Turns out that the person I purchased it from pulled the dump lever and latched it when we loaded on the trailer. Released the lever, started engine and magic, it works.
Thanks again.

according to the picture i got off the internet of the mower it is the lever on the back of the mower, which I think is the release/engage lever. Don't know for sure but either way it works now and I appreciate all the help.
Thanks again.
