I have never seen such poor quality in a trimmer. We bought a Ryobi trimmer brand new at Home Depot and used it last summer and by summer's end it was broken. We had to search high and low to find a place to repair it and now it has to go back, thankful it still has a warranty until next April.

Gas or electric? What broke?

It is gas. The engine is seized I guess, it will not turn over or start, it is getting frustrating I will tell you that. He used it once since it got fixed and that was it!

What oil was mixed with the gas? Low ash oil is a must, especially on trimmers like Ryobi and Poulan. I've only used name brand low ash oil ( Stihl) in the gas of all my two cycle engines. Fortunately all use 40.1 mixture. Yet I know people who us nothing but used engine oil in their two cycle gas with no problems. Well they said they have no problems.

I have a Sthil chainsaw and a Sthil trimmer,both use the same mix .and I only use sthil oil. when you get your trimmer back try the sthil oil in your gas. russ

He had oil specifically for the trimmer, I am just very disgusted with way this has been going, we have had it for a whole year and then some, but it has been broken more than it has worked

I've had problems with trimmers, too. They'll run fine for a while and one day just won't start. I'll admit the two that's done that have been lower-end, but they didn't even make it through a whole season. I'm thinking it might be shoddy manufacturing.

I also put Stabil in my gas can before I get it filled. I use that gas for mixing for two cycles and well as straight for fours. It is rare that I have a problem with starting other than a few extra pulls when a machine has sat for quite a while. Stabilizer is cheap insurance.

Think I caught the same sale you did; mine at Lowes. It lasted half the season and has been in the shop twice. It just won't come on.

Homesteader, is yours a ryobi too or made by them, home lite is also made by them I guess, not sure if that is better or worse quality. I told my husband we would have been better with a small featherlight weed eater for under $100.
