Adding a throttle and choke to a 6.25 craftsman (possible?)

Hi everybody,I have just joined the forum and this is my first post.I have a problem that is beyond my solving.
I have a 6.25 hp. craftsman (Model#917.388360)(engine model# is 143.006200)Which I am trying to use as the
engine to an outboard motor lower unit.I have done this before,it works well and is becoming a common retrofit
for anyone having an old outboard leg.Normally with an engine that has a throttle and maybe a choke this is
very easily done (checkout youtube).But the carburator on my engine has a fixed throttle.Pull the handle and off
she roars full speed.This means running full speed while shifting into forward and reverse from neutral,not a
safe or smart move.Anybody know a way to convert to another carb with existing throttle.I have no idea how
one would determine if it would fit or if there is a conversion chart that lists earlier models that will bolt on.
Anyone have any advise?

John, since no one has responded I will dive in. I do not know your engine. If you are describing an engine that is choked (vs cold start spray) it must have a butterfly that closes off the the carb throat so that a very rich mixture is produced at cold. Then, when the engine will keep running the choke is off and the engine runs at one leaner mixture setting. If that is so I guess it means the wide open setting depends on max air flow and the carb has no way to gradually admit fuel gradually off idle to full throttle. Fussing with intakes and fuel settings is tricky and time consuming. The basics are to find a carb matched to the engine size. The Japanese bikes have been around since the 1960's and there are salvage yards full of parts. But such a search will be time consuming. If you want to discuss this more , advise. These engines are governed, yes?
Would not that then preclude such a use, and pushing a
fan through water is waay more difficult than a fan in grass!

I have a project shelved using an AC fourstroke hooked to a jet unit.
Shelved for much the same reason, lack of powerband.
Looking at electric now for the project, just trying to get the funds past
the financial comptroller - SWMBO :laugh:
