Most people fill the tank, prior to mowing.

Or when Joe Smith takes his 0-turn in for service, they hook the wires up to battery power.

Or this new wonder light makes the tank leak and burns Mrs. Smith's house down WITH their shiny new mower.

Danger Danger Willie.

How are you going to see that out in the sun?

A better idea would be a float type, that actuates a electrical connection on the outside of the tank to light up the light, but that's not as universal.

That would be a way better idea.

I’m sure he was worried about litigation, but I think he actually agreed that it was a fire hazard because he removed it from his own mower. I’ve had experience advising clients on when and how to make mea culpa announcements. Never fun, especially if it is being made solely because the lawyers said to do it. But this one felt genuine. Taryl realized that he got out ahead of his skis and did what he could to correct course. Hope it works.

Has anyone sued a YouTuber over bad info?

There is a lot of bad information on YouTube. That is a good question.

If there is a potential defendant with financial resources and there is an injured party, you can be sure that some lawyer will cobble together a legal theory to reach into the deep pockets. The State of Arizona has already sued YouTube for its alleged role in damaging the mental health of juveniles. It is citing that state’s Consumer Protection Statute. My state (NC) has a very broad Consumer Protection law and I can easily envision a claim that dangerous information disseminated for profit is actionable as an unfair or deceptive trade practice. NC also has an appellate court decision that says NC courts can create causes of action for every wrong, regardless of whether there is a statute on point. Every state has their own laws, so there is no uniformity, but keep in mind that pretty much all the state consumer laws were originally based on federal law and FTC regulations.

Once again we are the victim of protecting us from the few idiots who are without common sense. This setup is no different than just about every fuel level device in gas tanks of every vehicle out there. I've replaced the fuel level/fuel pump in my van a couple of times. It has electrical wires, a pump and a rheostat connected to a float all exposed to the gas in the tank. I asked, how is this possible and how is it safe? Because of a simple principle, gasoline and gasoline vapors cannot ignite in the absence of oxygen.

Just having to fight a court case, even a fraudulent one, can get expensive.
