I recently purchased a used Poulan Pro 21" 3-in-1 walk behind (Model: 961320098 01 (PR500N21RH)) It has a Briggs & Stratton 140cc 450 EX engine. I bought it assuming it was a primer model. It wasn't until I removed the top shroud to remove debris that I discovered it also has an automatic choke. It will not start with the choke alone, despite being fully closed. It will, however, fire off with a push or two of the primer. Likewise hot, it'll take at least one prime to restart. I can't imagine it being built this way. Has anyone else had a Briggs E series engine with both a primer bulb and automatic choke, or is was the intake modified at some point? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
